Derek Broadley
Derek Broadley joined Charleston Battery Soccer Club as its first-ever Technical Director and has transitioned into the same position as Technical Director of Charleston Soccer Club when the Battery Ownership group changed hands in 2019. Prior to joining the Club, Derek worked in the game of soccer as a coach, director, and leader for more nearly 3 decades. Derek is a qualified teacher who led the Physical Education Department at Westminster City Soccer prior to entering full-time Professional Football with Crystal Palace FC of the current Premier League.
Broadley's career is highlighted by a three-year stint as Academy Director of Crystal Palace in London, England from 1999 to 2003. As Academy Director, Broadley developed and implemented coaching programs for youth players ages 9 through 21. He was instrumental in determining the Club's policy on tactics and implementing those tactics throughout all age levels.
Broadley left his position as Palace's Academy Director and moved to America. Broadley earned his NSCAA Premier Diploma in 2004 and Master Coach distinction in 2009.
Broadley served as Technical Director for the Bermuda Football Association from 2008-2011. As Technical Director, he was responsible for the overall development of the game of soccer in the country. Broadley introduced a National Academy program and restructured the country's leagues at all levels from youth through senior. While under Broadley's leadership, Bermuda rose 36 places in the FIFA World Rankings.
Most recently, Broadley served as the Director of Coaching for the Knoxville Force and Academy Director for Knoxville Soccer Academy.
- Broadley has a UEFA "A" License, a Football Association Academy Directors License, NSCAA Premier Diploma, and NSCAA Master Coach distinction. Derek is awaiting a place on the English FA Pro License
